As a provider who received extensive training in all aspects of general surgery including advanced laparoscopic training, I believe in providing patients the least invasive yet complete care possible. I believe communication with my patients is essential to the doctor-patient relationship and I value the ability to provide care for patients, but also teach patients to help improve their overall health and well-being. As an osteopathic physician we believe in treating the patient as a “whole”, focusing not only on the disease process at hand, but also in some cases alternative means to treat the patient.
I chose to pursue a Bariatric Surgery fellowship as obesity has become an epidemic in this country. Surgical options for weight loss has been proven the most effective means of long term weight loss with patient being able to achieve and maintain 70-80% of excess weight loss at 5 years. As I believe obesity is a life long problem for many patients, my weight loss program will encompass all aspects of weight loss treatment including medical weight loss programs, dietitian evaluations and teaching, and exercise programs in order to prepare patients to be effective with weight loss before surgery to help patients develop the tools to maintain the weight loss years out from surgery.
I chose to join Physician’s Clinic of Iowa for a multitude of reasons. The PCI philosophy of “Above & Beyond Caring” towards patient care is one that I believe strongly in. I pride myself on patient centered care, where myself as a provider can help make the most appropriate care decisions with my patients. PCI’s multi-specialty model and multiple services I believe is a great model to help streamline patient care, something at times feels lost in many academic centers. I am joining a general surgery department that works well together as partners to provide the best care to patient’s and have a wealth of experience that I feel I can contribute to greatly with my surgical training and fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery training.
